Santoshi Mata (Hindi: संतोषी माता) or Santoshi Maa (संतोषी माँ) is a relatively new goddess in the Hindu pantheon. She is venerated as "the Mother of Satisfaction",[1] the meaning of her name. Santoshi Mata is particularly worshipped by women of North India and Nepal. A vrata (ritual fast) called the Santoshi Maa vrata performed by women on 16 consecutive Fridays wins the goddess' favour.

The film portrayed the goddess to be the daughter of the popular Hindu god Ganesha and related her to the Raksha Bandhan festival, however, it had no basis in Hindu scriptures.

The Santoshi Mata vrata or devotional fast is to be observed on 16 successive Fridays or until one's wish is fulfilled. The devotee should perform a puja (worship) of Santoshi Mata and offer her flowers, incense and a bowl of raw sugar and roasted chickpeas (gur-chana). The devotee wakes up at early morning, remembering the Goddess. Only one meal is taken during the fast day, and devotees avoid eating bitter or sour food and serving these to others, as sour or bitter food is somewhat addictive and hinders satisfaction. When the wish is granted, a devotee must then organise a udyapan ("bringing to conclusion") ceremony, where eight boys are to be served as a festive meal.[1]

In this type of worship, the devotee has to follow other strictures such as avoiding quarrels and hurting anyone. By means of this vrata one can live with harmony because the bad habits in human life like to ignore faith and to say false, to behave arogantly can be removed. This vrata teaches the devotee to spread love, sympathy and happiness.

Santoshi Mata is referred as the goddess of satisfaction. She is the daughter of Lord Ganesh. She accepts all the sorrows, problems and ill fate of all her devotees and blesses them with prosperity and happiness.

She is treated as the most calm, soft, pure and kind form of Goddess Durga. She is sitting on lotus which signifies that even in this world which is full of selfishness, rudeness and corruption goddess of satisfaction is still present in her devotee’s hearts. She resides on the lotus which is blossoming in the sea filled with milk which is a symbol of her purity signifying that where there is purity of heart and dedication there we will have our mother of satisfaction.

As it’s a general saying that if we will eat sweet things then our words will be as sweet as sugar, in the same manner maa Santoshi refrains all the sour things and symbolizes her devotes that by avoiding the sour things which are wrongs acts they can achieve the complete purity, happiness and satisfaction in their hearts. Maa Santoshi not only provides purity and calmness, she also saves all her devotees from ill powers with her Sword in her left hand and Trishul in her right hand. As per the beliefs she is a four handed Goddess with only two hands visible to her devotees and other two with weapons like Sword and Trishul are only for the ones who play as the hurdles in the path of truth and goodness. Santoshi Maa is the most beautiful and lovable goddess who is always ready for blessing her followers and looking at her statue all the devotees forget their problems and feel as if they are lost in her beauty and calmness. Maa Santoshi is worshiped on Friday and it is believed that people get all their wishes fulfilled by worshipping Goddess Santoshi by keeping 16 consecutive fasts and following the strict rule of refraining from all the sour eatables. So let’s always keep dedicating her efforts in her feet and she will always take us to the paths of complete solace as being our mother she knows what is best for us.

Per mezzo di questa Vrata si può vivere con armonia, perché le cattive abitudini della vita umana, come per ignorare la fede e per dire falso, a comportarsi arogantly può essere rimosso. Questo vrata insegna il devoto a diffondere l'amore, la simpatia e la felicità.

Santoshi Mata viene indicato come la dea della soddisfazione. Lei è la figlia di Lord Ganesh. Lei accetta tutti i dolori, i problemi e mal destino di tutti i suoi devoti e li benedice con la prosperità e la felicità.

Lei viene considerato come la forma più calma, dolce, puro e gentile della dea Durga. Maa Santoshi non solo fornisce la purezza e la calma, si salva anche tutti i suoi devoti provenienti da poteri malati con la sua spada nella mano sinistra e Trishul nella mano destra. Secondo le credenze lei è un quattro mani Dea con solo due mani visibili ai suoi devoti e gli altri due con le armi come la spada e Trishul sono solo per quelli che giocano come gli ostacoli nel percorso di verità e di bontà. Santoshi Maa è la dea più bella e amabile che è sempre pronto per benedire i suoi seguaci e guardando la sua statua tutti i devoti dimenticano i loro problemi e si sentono come se essi si perdono nella sua bellezza e tranquillità. Maa Santoshi è adorato il Venerdì e si ritiene che la gente ottiene tutti i loro desideri esauditi adorando Dea Santoshi mantenendo 16 digiuni consecutive e seguendo la regola rigorosa di astenersi da tutti i viveri acida.
